The President's Letter
.... Greetings to all beloved ACPC members!
There has been a whirlwind of activity amidst Polonia during this time of the year. Not only is October Polish Heritage month, but this year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the reestablishment of the Poland regaining its independence. There have been a multitude of celebrations in my home area of Washington DC, and naturally the Embassy of Poland is at the forefront. I want to thank the Embassy for their generous support of ACPC and affiliate activities over the years and pledge our continued support for the Embassy's mission. I know that this 100th anniversary has also been a focus for your affiliate clubs this year also.
Recently, I represented ACPC at the Polish American Congress conference in Chicago, followed by attendance at the special 25th Anniversary Chopiniana sponsored by Detroit American Cultural Center to honor Poland's greatest composer. In this coming year I have pledged my availability to attend your affiliate functions as a means of evangelizing the benefits of ACPC membership and support, so I challenge affiliate clubs to test me out. I want to reiterate our gratitude to Polish American Cultural Institute of Minnesota for their gracious hosting of our 2018 ACPC Convention. This was a testament to effective multi-tasking, as they were simultaneously holding their colorful festival, which we were delighted to attend on Saturday. Special thanks to Terry Kita, our coordinator, and the entire Board for their hospitality.
2019 will be a very busy year for us. Plans are underway to highlight the contributions that the first Polish immigrants to America made on behalf of democracy for all Americans, when in 1619, they organized the first recorded work stoppage in America in order to gain the right to vote. Ceil and Ray Glembocki have carefully amassed a very impressive educational package that can be shared with affiliates in order to educate your local area to the overlooked historical facts. It's all in a day's work for us Poles to publicize the overlooked contributions of Polonia to American culture, isn't it?
Finally, we are excited to take a courageous leap forward and begin plans to hold our 2019 ACPC Convention in Poland! Planning is in its infancy, so you will have to wait for further details, but rest assured that our objective is to conduct a Convention according to constitutional guidelines and have a lot of fun at the same time. So start budgeting your time and resources for a Convention in the August-September timeframe.
Our next newsletter will likely be in 2019, so I also want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas.
